Biography

Katy is a Lecturer in the discipline of Health Promotion and a Practice Education Coordinator on the BA Social Care Programme at the University of Galway. Katy has been educating and mentoring students in the social care programme since 2016. Katy has also supported students as the Academic Practice Placement officer on the Childrens Studies programme at the University of Galway. Katy has a master¿s degree in Health Promotion and a CELT postgraduate certificate in Teaching and Learning both of which were completed in the University of Galway. Katy also has a BA in Social Care Practice from TUS Athlone. Katy has over 10 years¿ experience of working in the field of Social Care. In this time, Katy has worked with young people and their families with a variety of complex needs through multidisciplinary team working and residential supports. Katy also worked in Community and Disability settings researching supports and services as well as developing and overseeing interventions based on identified needs of the client group. Katy is passionate about supporting students in achieving academic success and is continuously engaging in ongoing professional development to support her interests. Her research interests are focused on student learning through the practice placement experience focusing on barriers and challenges throughout the process.
