This programme aims to give students an insight and understanding of the Irish language, and its related cultural heritage. Covering a diverse range of topics this programme not only offers students an in-depth appreciation of Gaeltacht culture but also a context for the language, its people and its heritage.

Irish Language for Beginners:This subject aims to give basic knowledge and understanding of Irish to students who have little or no previous knowledge of the language. Participants will achieve a basic aptitude in conversational Irish in a friendly and collaborative atmosphere. The subject will have an element of pre-course study. Cultural Traditions of Ireland:This subject aims to share an understanding of the traditional arts and culture native to Irish-speaking communities; including folklore, sean-nós singing and dancing and traditional Irish music. Students will experience and participate in traditional cultural activities and performances and undertake field trips to cultural-historical sites. The subject will have an element of pre-course study. |
Both subjects will be assessed through continuous assessment. The course holds 6 Semester Hour Credits (U.S.) or 3 Semester Hour Credits (U.S.) per subject.
The programme has an element of pre-course study, undertaken by students before they come to study at the Centre in Carna.
