Conchúr Mac Giolla Eáin is originally from Slaughtmanus, a townland in northwest County Derry. He works as a language executive in NUIG’s outreach centre in Gaoth Dobhair, where he teaches Irish and Translation Skills. He has an Honours degree in Celtic Studies and Spanish from Queen’s University Belfast (1996). He qualified as a teacher of modern languages after doing a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) in 1997/98. He has spent a number of years teaching abroad and a period lecturing in University of Ulster, Magee College.
He is very interested in translation and minority languages. He completed the Higher Diploma in Translation Studies in NUIG in 2002/03. He was awarded a Master of Arts degree in 2005 after writing a thesis on Breandán Ó hEithir’s translation of Lig Sinn i gCathú. He is listed by Foras na Gaeilge as one of the people who have been awarded the Seal of Accreditation for Irish Translators.
