Biography

Séamas is originally from An Spidéal in the Connemara Gaeltacht.

Role in the University

Séamas is a graduate of the National University of Ireland, Galway and the National University of Ireland, Maynooth. He began working with the University in Áras Shorcha Ní Ghuairim (Ionad an Acadaimh: Carna) in 1998. During his time working as administrator of Ionad Charna, he has developed undergraduate and postgraduate courses that include the M.Sc. sa Teicneolaíocht Faisnéise (Research) in conjunction with the Information Technology Department. 

The Administrator of Ionad Charna, Séamas Ó Concheanainn, is currently working as the co-ordinator of an tAonad Teicneolaíochta Faisnéise. 
He is also directing the aforementioned computer courses in Ionad na Ceathrún Rua and Ionad Ghaoth Dobhair. In the agenda that he has set out for Ionad Charna he has placed particular emphasis on the unique cultural amenity of the area through various activities that include the following:

1. The use of modern methods of technology to preserve the valuable collection of folklore associated with the area. 

2. To ascertain a practical modern use for this valuable local collection through the development of courses based on folklore, courses that are to be organised in conjunction with Scoil na Gaeilge. 

3. Support local groups to organise festivals and cultural events in the area.
   
   
   

Other Activities

• He is a member of the Board of Management of Scoil Phobail Mhic Dara, Carna since 2003, which involves having an active role on the school’s appointments board on a regular basis.  

• He is also co-ordinator of a commercial project for the company Gaelstór Teo., a project that involves creating language support packages for various groups. 

• He is a supervisor of Comhar Creidmheasa Cholm Cille, Indreabhán at the moment and is a past member of the Board of Directors. 

• He had a central role in research that earned significant state resources for the founding of Clár Forbartha Pobail Chumas Teo., Comhpháirtíocht Chonamara agus Árann.

• He spent two terms as Director of the Board of Directors of Cumas Teo., Páirtíocht Chonamara agus Árann.

• He developed an Area Development Plan for Ros Muc, a plan that received sponsorship from Údarás na Gaeltachta.

• He worked as an Enterprise Development Executive with Cumas Teo. when the National Programme, the Local Enterprise Programme was founded in the Connemara Gaeltacht for the first time to aid the development of small companies.
