Where will I be conferred?

When will I be notified about my conferring?

Information on the detailed arrangements will be sent to your home address as soon as possible in advance of the date of the particular ceremony.  Please notify the Conferring Unit of any change to your home address.

Will I need an academic robe?

Yes, those graduating must present in academic robes.   Cost of the robe hire is €45.00 (non returnable)

How do I book a robe?   

All graduands must pre-book and pre-pay for a robe with the official robe-makers Phelan Conan Ltd.  Graduands have the option of paying online, by telephone or by post.  Please see  Phelan Conan for further details or free phone 1800-808-818.  If a graduand is not able to pre-book or pre-pay prior to the ceremony robes will be available for hire on campus on each conferring day.   'On the Day' robe hire is €45.00 (non returnable).  No cash will be accepted on the day.  The University will ensure that Phelan Conan have a robe available for every graduand.

When should I return my academic robe?

Robes must be returned on the same day as you are conferred.  Please confirm the time for return of the robe with Phelan Conan on collection. Please also view the conferring office website at

How many guests can I bring to the ceremony?

Graduands may bring up to four guests to the ceremonies.  The four guests and the graduand are welcome to the post-conferring reception.  Because of Health and Safety Regulations it is not possible to accommodate any more guests. 

What time should Graduands arrive?

Graduands must be present and robed in the Bailey Allen Hall thirty minutes before the ceremony begins.   

What time should my guests arrive?

Guests must be seated thirty minutes before the ceremony commences.  It is advisable to arrive early to ensure you are seated. 

Should guests bring their tickets?

Tickets must be shown at the entrance to the Bailey Allen Hall and retained for entrance to the reception following the ceremony.

How long will the ceremony last?

The ceremony lasts approximately 1 hour 15 minutes/1 hour 30 minutes.

Where can I have my photographs taken?

The Lane Studios are the licensed photographers for the conferring ceremonies at NUI Galway.

The University accepts no liability in respect of the services provided. 

Do I need to inform the Conferring Unit if I am unable to attend the ceremony?

No, there is no need to contact us if you are not able to attend.  Graduands not in attendance will be conferred in absentia and parchments will be posted to the home address within two weeks of the conferring ceremonies.

Cén chaoi a gcuirfidh mé róba in áirithe?   

Caithfidh gach céimí róba a chur in áirithe agus íoc as an róba roimh ré le Phelan Conan Ltd.  Féadfar íoc as an róba ar líne, ar an teileafón nó sa phost.  Féach Phelan Conan Ltd. chun sonraí breise a fháil nó cuir glao ar 1800-808-818.  Mura féidir le réamhchéimí róba a chur in áirithe nó íoc as an róba roimh ré beidh róbaí ar fáil ar cíos ar an gcampas lá an tsearmanais.   Cosnóidh róba ar cíos ’Ar an Lá’ €45.00 (neamh-inaisíoctha).  Ní ghlacfar le hairgead tirim ar bith ar an lá.  Cinnteoidh an Ollscoil go mbeidh róba ar fáil ag Phelan Conan do gach réamhchéimí. 

Cén uair a dtabharfaidh mé an róba acadúil ar ais?

Cé mhéad duine a fhéadfaidh mé a thabhairt liom chuig an searmanas?

Féadfaidh tú suas le ceathrar a thabhairt leat.  Tá fáilte romhat féin agus roimh an gceathrar sin chuig an bhfáiltiú i ndiaidh an tsearmanais.  Ní féidir níos mó ná ceathrar a thabhairt leat mar gheall ar Rialacháin Sláinte agus Sábháilteachta. 

Cén t-am ar chóir dom a bheith i láthair?

Caithfidh réamhchéimithe a bheith ina gcuid róbaí i Halla Bailey Allen leathuair roimh an searmanas.  

Cén t-am ar chóir do m’aíonna a bheith i láthair?

Ní mór d’aíonna a bheith suite leathuair sula dtosaíonn an searmanas.  Moltar a bheith i láthair go luath chun suíochán a bheith agat.

Ar chóir d’aíonna a dticéid a thabhairt leo?

Ní mór ticéid a thaispeáint ar an mbealach isteach chuig Halla Bailey Allen agus iad a choinneáil chun cead isteach a fháil chuig an bhFáiltiú i ndiaidh an tsearmanais.

Cá fhad a mhairfidh an searmanas?

Mairfidh an searmanas timpeall uair agus ceathrú.

Cá bhfaighidh mé grianghraif?

Níl aon ghá teagmháil a dhéanamh linn.  Bronnfar céim in absentia ar réamhchéimithe nach mbeidh i láthair agus seolfar an pár chuig a seoladh baile taobh istigh de choicís ó na searmanais.
