soccer scholarship for participants on the Access Programme

We are delighted to announce a new scholarship for Access students who are high performing soccer players and coaches.

Widening participation is an important mission in higher education internationally and is an important strategic focus for NUI Galway. The University’s Access Programme is delighted to announce a new collaborative partnership with Salthill Devon Football Club, Galway.  The aims of this partnership are to target:

• Young talented soccer players from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds
• Older adults (who act as coaches) from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds

Those targeted are participants of the NUI Galway Access course to Higher Education Scheme (school leavers or mature students) or the HEAR (Higher Education Access Route) scheme.

The scholarship programme aims to provide supports that the soccer players/coaches can use to help them improve to the highest levels and to enable them to gain an outstanding qualification at the same time.
