NUI Galway Access Officers
Under the Disability Act 2005, all Public Bodies are required to nominate one or more persons as Access Officers, whose responsibility it is to provide assistance and guidance to people with disabilities in accessing the services of the Public Body and to act as a point of contact for people with disabilities who wish to access the service.
NUI Galway has nominated two Access Officers. They are Aoife Cooke, who is the Access Officer for staff and prospective staff and Aisling Palmer who is the Access Officer for students and prospective students. Members of the public who do not fall under either of these categories who have an enquiry under the Act should contact Aoife Cooke in the first instance.

Request for Information in Alternative Formats
Under the Disability Act 2005, individuals are entitled to receive information in alternative formats where possible, upon request. Due to the volume of information provided by the University, it is not possible to have all information readily available in alternative formats. Therefore, requests for information in alternative formats should be directed to the Access Officer using the ’Request Form for Information in Alternative Formats’. Such requests will be acknowledged and, where necessary, further information sought, within five working days. Time taken to produce the information in the format required will be dependant on the information sought and the format requested. While every attempt will be made to provide the required information in the preferred format, it may not always be possible. In this instance, an different format may be more appropriate. This will be discussed with the individual making the request before this is decided upon.
Examples of different formats which may be used are braille, audio, large print (if using this option, please specify the preferred font size).
When requesting information in an alternative format, please be as specific as possible regarding the preferred format and its intended use. This may speed up the process of providing the information in the format required.
