A Safety Statement is a plan, in writing, which specifically identifies the hazards, assesses the risks, identifies the controls to be put in place, the persons responsible and resources necessary to secure the safety of persons at work.
NUI Galway has a comprehensive safety management plan in place known as the “NUI Galway Safety Statement Policy” which is required by the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005. It addresses the major safety management, consultation and operational issues that apply to NUI Galway.
This document is regularly reviewed and updated to ensure that it is current and compliant. In 2014 it has been substantially revised and reformatted as a pdf document to make it easier to access and use. This link provides the full text of the NUI Galway Safety Statement Policy. In conjunction with this NUI Galway Safety Statement Policy, each Unit needs to have it own local Unit Policy and completed risk assessments (see links for further details).
