In today’s fast-paced competitive environment, organisations both large and small face many challenges. Commercialising emerging technologies is just one of these challenges. With the introduction of new technologies many organisations are often in the dark about what they should be doing or implementing for business process improvement. The Diploma in Technology Commericalisation seeks to improve Ireland’s expertise in Technology Commercialisation and to up-skill the next generation of individual entrepreneurs focused on high technology.
Who is the programme intended for?
The course is targeted at mid to upper level managers responsible for technology commercialisation, research program management and business development in both private and public sector organisations. The diploma will be of interest to all industries with a keen interest in technology commercialisation and especially those organisations directly involved in innovation, marketing and technology. The programme will support Irish companies in various sectors to specify and lead projects that will have commercial benefit. It will increase international competitiveness through both its module content and project modules.
Programme content
The Diploma in Technology Commercialisation is designed to assist managers, scientists and engineers in supporting technology commercialisation activities, realise the potential of innovation and gain a greater understanding of the commercialisation process. This course will provide information and guidance to potential entrepreneurs and give Irish industry the business planning skills and knowledge needed to commercialise new technologies, products and services, and to secure project finance.
The programme includes a project module which supports the taught modules in a very practical way. Participants will participate inproject activities that will aid their understanding of the commercialisation options available to an identified venture. It will also enhance their understanding of venture capital financing, along with business planning, business management, marketing and technology development. It is envisaged that this course will also allow participants the opportunity to expand their networks with individuals, companies and agencies involved in Technology Commercialisation.
On completion of the course participants will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to enable them to:
Entry requirements
An undergraduate Degree 1st or 2nd Class Honours in any discipline along with 1 year of relevant industrial experience;
or An Ordinary or 3rd Class Honours Under-graduate Degree along with 3 years of relevant industrial experience; or
A Recognised Professional Qualification and 3 years of relevant industrial experience.
Candidates not meeting the minimum entry criteria may be interviewed by the Programme Board to ascertain their suitability.

Duration/attendance requirements
The programme is a 1-year, part-time, blended learning programme, running from September to June. The programme is delivered using a blended approach, that is, a combination of self-instructional materials, online learning activities, face-to-face tutorials and seminars.
Assessment
Each module will be accompanied by a written examination and one piece of continuous assessment work. A selection of assignments will be group orientated and based on module content with support from module tutors. The project module will be assessed completely by continuous assessment. Participants will also be encouraged to write an article for an internationally recognised journal.

NUI Diploma in Technology Commericalisation.
Annual fee
The EU fee is currently €3,950 per year. This is subject to a yearly review. The fee includes tutor fees, course materials and refreshments.
