I’m a lone parent and going back to college as a mature student. How do I get a childcare place at NUI Galway crèche? And what financial allowances do I get for childcare?

You can apply to get on the waiting list for the NUI Galway Crèche - see contact details here.

There are substantial national financial supports available as outlined here. You can estimate the support available here (the support is primarily based on income and many students pay less than fifty euro per week). The NUI Galway Financial Aid Fund can also provide support for childcare.

Can I get a bank loan?

We appreciate that funding college can be very challenging for many students and their families. Please be aware that various banks have different student loan criteria. It's well worth checking with them all. Credit Unions can also be very supportive. If you have a savings account with your own bank and therefore have a track record with them it is very positive and may help you. You should consider applying for SUSI grant funding as well.
