Alumni Ideas Fora

As a valued member of our alumni, we would like to give you the opportunity to assist in the development of a masterplan for the Nuns’ Island area of Galway City.  NUI Galway and Galway City Council are currently working with international master-planners BDP on a project to support the economic and social development of the area.

The lands at Nuns' Island present an opportunity to transform an underutilised parcel of land on the edge of Galway City centre. The site benefits from a prominent central position in Galway, with proximity to the city centre and main facilities, fantastic views across the River Corrib and natural and historical settings. It is proposed to develop a cohesive and achievable regeneration proposal for the area to create vibrant space through the appropriate mix of public realm spaces and development. Realising this ambition will require a collaborative approach based on detailed engagement and long term thinking, and the expertise of our alumni will be an important part of that.

The University are proposing to shortly hold an ideas fora for alumni in both Galway and Dublin, as well as a virtual event for our international alumni.  To register your interest in getting involved, please contact kate.thornhill@nuigalway.ie

This project represents a tremendous opportunity for Galway to build upon its strengths to create a new place with a strong identity and a well-defined character, capitalising on its history to promote its future. For more, visit www.nuigalway.ie/nunsisland
