Alumni Get Preview Tour of Aviva Stadium

Saturday, 5th December 2009

20 alumni, who were lucky enough to get places, enjoyed an informative and entertaining tour of the nearly completed Aviva Stadium in Lansdowne Road on Saturday, 5th of December.

The tour was led by the two of the project principals, Aviva Stadium Director, Martin Murphy, BA 1980 and Project Director, Michael Greene, BE 1970.

The scope of the project is truly amazing from the breathtaking parabolic design to the range of facilities available behind the scenes. It is a huge credit to Martin and Michael's teams and will be a magnificent venue when opened in 2010.

After the tour the company adjourned to the nearby Ballsbridge Court for soup and sandwiches and the chance to chat and catch-up further.

This was the final event for 2009 in a hugely successful run of events organised by the NUI Galway Dublin Alumni Club. More events are being planned for 2010... watch this space!

Galway Group Presents... A Christmas Gathering

The Galway Group invites you to attend a Christmas Gathering in the Staff Club, The Quadrangle, NUI Galway from 5.30pm on the 18th of December.

Join fellow alumni, friends and family for mulled wine, mince pies, carols and a festive get-together on campus.

This is a free event but please let the Alumni Office know if you plan on attending so that sufficient mince pies can be on offer!

Gala Banquet & Alumni Awards 2009

The NUI Galway Gala Banquet and Alumni Awards 2009, took place at the Radisson SAS Hotel on Saturday 7th March. Over 500 alumni and friends of the University attended this prestigious event.

Eight alumni, representing academic and sporting excellence, were honoured by their alma mater through the presentation of alumni awards. Click here for full details of the award recipients.

A highlight of the evening was the performance by tenor and alumnus David O�€�Leary BA 2007, LLB 2008 who was later joined on stage by the Cois Cladaigh choir conducted by Alumni Award recipient, Dr Brendan O�€�Connor.

NUI Galway and Bank of Ireland Launch Affinity Credit Card

NUI Galway and Bank of Ireland are delighted to announce the launch of their new affinity credit card available exclusively to alumni, staff and students. Each time an Affinity Card is used the University will benefit, which associates the user with NUI Galway while supporting it financially at the same time.

The new NUI Galway Bank of Ireland Affinity Credit Card was formally launched in September and coincided with the renewal of Bank of Ireland�€�s exclusive on-campus banking franchise at NUI Galway.

Tom Joyce, Galway University Foundation Executive Director, said: �The proceeds from the uptake and use of these cards marks a significant contribution by alumni to the prosperity of their alma mater. It is fitting then that the funds will be directed to the NUI Galway Alumni Fund priority projects�.

When you become a cardholder, Bank of Ireland will donate €40 and a percentage of the annual spend on your card to the Galway University Foundation at no cost to the cardholder, and without disclosing any confidential account details. Cardholders can avail of a range of benefits including online and phone shopping, credit limits to suit each individual and cash withdrawal from ATMs.
