Welcome to the final edition of the Alumni Links for 2005. This edition contains several articles on upcoming events in 2006 including the annual reunions in June and next up are the classes of 1956, 1966, 1976, 1981 and 1996.
The annual Alumni Awards takes place on Saturday March 4th, at the University's Annual Gala Banquet. this has become a major event in Galway and there is always a huge demand for tickets, book early to avoid disappointment.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the members of the Alumni Board who volunteer their time, enthusiasm and energy to build the links between the University and its Alumni, through all its activities: Student Send Off, Career Connect, Reunions, Alumni Awards adjudications and with the University Foundation in its fundraising activities.
Welcome to Sheila Gorham who recently joined the Alumni Office team as Alumni Information Assistant.

Alumni Awards & Gala Banquet Launched
Details have been announced of NUI Galway’s seventh annual Gala Banquet, taking place at the Radisson SAS Hotel on
Saturday 4th March 2006.
The 2006 Gala Banquet will build on the University’s mission in international education which has brought three postgraduate students from developing countries to NUI Galway as the inaugural recipients of its International Scholarship Programme. The NUI programme is a philanthropic initiative spearheaded by Galway University Foundation, which has been working with a range of donors to secure substantial scholarship funds for postgraduate students from developing countries to study in NUI Galway. Income from the Gala Banquet itself will also contribute to this initiative.
One of the highlights of the evening is the presentation of seven annual Alumni Awards. These awards celebrate the life-long value of an NUI Galway education and recognise individual excellence and achievements among the University’s more than 50,000 graduates worldwide. The Alumni Awards are; Medtronic Vascular Award for Health Care and Medical Science; Seavite Award for Natural Science; Bank of Ireland Award for Business and Commerce; AIB Award for Literature, Communications and the Arts; TBD Award for Engineering, IT and Mathematics; Duais Hewlett-Packard don Ghaeilge and the NUI Galway Award for Law, Public Service and Government. Alumni Christmas Gathering
Plan your trip home for Christmas a few days early and join in with the festivities on campus at NUI Galway for alumni returning to Galway for the Festive Season. The NUI Glaway Alumni Association, incorporating Cumann Céimithe na Gaillimhe invite you and a guest to attend an Alumni Christmas Gathering on Wednesday 21st December from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm in the Aula Maxima, The Quadrangle, NUI Galway. Join fellow alumni for mulled wine, mince pies and an opportunity to catch up with what's happening on campus and with your former classmates.

Calling London-based alumni!
On the success of last year's inaugural All Irish New Year's Party, the second Irish Universities Alumni Event is taking place on Thursday 19th January 2006 at 'The Porter House' 21-22 Maiden Lane Covent Garden, WC2. Cumann Caoga Bliain Celebrations
The fourth annual Cumann Caoga Bliain Celebrations will take place on Thursday 6th April at NUI Galway. This event is open to all pre-1956 graduates especially those who have not previously returned for their 50th Reunion. The '
Through the Years' Reunion Barbeque is taking place on the
10th June 2006. All Alumni celebrating their 50th, 40th, 30th, 25th and 10th Anniversaries are invited to attend. If you are a graduate of
1956, 1966, 1976, 1981 or 1996 and are willing to assist the alumni office in identifying the whereabouts of your classmates please contact the

The NUI Galway/AIB credit card benefits both you and your
alma mater. The attractive card depicting the clock tower is a visible sign of your ties with your University and every time a card is issued or used AIB will make a donation to support a range of University priority projects.
