Fáilte chuig eagrán eile de e-nuachtlitir na gcéimithe. Mar a druidimuid le deireadh na bliana acadúla, tá réimse mar scéalta san eagrán seo.
Welcome to the last edition of Alumni Links before the summer. As we come to the end of a very busy year there are plenty of stories to share with you.
The reunion season is upon us and the numbers participating in our reunion activities keeps growing year by year. The recent Cumann Caoga Bliain Reunion was attended by graduates from as far back as 1940. Reunion 2006 promises to be the biggest ever with the classes of 1956, 1966, 1976, 1981 and 1996 coming together on June 10.
The University’s research activity continues to grow. Research income has grown from € 10million in 2000 and will reach € 50million this year. The government has announced plans to double the number of PhD students and all Irish universities are collaborating in the formation of graduate schools and the government is expected to announce major investments in research over the coming months.
I would like to thank the Alumni Association Board and its Chairperson Dr Fidelma Dunne, for their dedication, enthusiasm and hard work. I would like to sincerely thank the outgoing members – Pat May, Fintan Maher, Don O’Donovan and Paddy Reilly - who have provided sterling service to the University and its alumni.
The 2006 edition of Cois Coiribe is with the printers and will be mailed shortly. Feedback on this or any other matter relating to alumni affairs is welcome.
My best wishes for the summer.
Prof W Gerard Hurley (PhD 1988)
Vice President for Strategic Initiatives & External Affairs
