The Seafarer ReturnsThe ever-faithful Class of 1978/79 was out in force on the 17th of January to see the return to the Abbey boards of their peer Maolíosa Stafford.
Maolíosa, a co-founder of the Druid Theatre Company, is starring in Conor McPherson’s acclaimed The Seafarer in the Abbey. The group attended a pre-theatre reception and later adjourned to a local hostelry with some of the cast. For pictures see here BACK TO TOP |

Annual Corrib Medical Network DinnerGalway University Foundation hosted its annual Corrib Medical Network Dinner in the Shelbourne Hotel on Saturday, January 16th. The event acknowledges the tremendous support of network members in the development of the Translational Research Facility on the grounds of University Hospital Galway. 1978 / 1979 ReunionAlmost €3,000 was raised for charity by the alumni of 1978 and 1979, friends, hangers-on and various fellow-travellers who gathered for their second reunion in two years on November 7th. 1984 and 1989 ReunionOver 300 alumni from the classes of 1984 and 1989 returned to Galway to celebrate their 25th and 20th reunions on November 7th. Graduates enjoyed a buffet lunch in the Aula Maxima and a bus tour of a radically developed campus. The classes gathered together again that evening for a reunion dinner in the Meyrick Hotel (formerly the Great Southern) with entertainment provided by Marc Roberts and DJ Kevin Belton. Galway Christmas Carol GatheringOver eighty alumni attended a Christmas gathering of Carols and seasonal cheer in the NUI Galway Staff Club in the quad the Friday before Christmas. Mince pies, mulled wine and various other seasonal nibbles were served. Members of BaCon Society, aided and abetted by alumna Riona Hughes, led the carol singing.
