Lit and Deb Hacks and Heroes Reunite: Thurs. 11th February, 2010The Literary and Debating Society is inviting the very best of its competitive heroes back to the Kirwan to battle it out once again. Spanning many generations of “Lit and Debbers” and almost as many grand titles, this night promises to be one of heated debate, much hilarity with occasional ribaldry. Night of Music and Craic – Save the Date: Mon, March 15Galway Alumni Club is hosting an Irish night to celebrate our national language and culture during Seachtain na Gaeilge on Monday, March 15 in the College Bar. The evening’s event includes music, dance, drama, and craic for everyone. Cumann Caoga Bliain - 50th Anniversary Reunion: Friday, April 9, 2010The Cumann Caoga Bliain 2010 reunion will take place on Friday, 9th of April, 2010 in NUI Galway to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the graduating class of 1960. Graduates from previous years are also invited to attend.

The Seafarer ReturnsThe ever-faithful Class of 1978/79 was out in force on the 17th of January to see the return to the Abbey boards of their peer Maolíosa Stafford.
Maolíosa, a co-founder of the Druid Theatre Company, is starring in Conor McPherson’s acclaimed The Seafarer in the Abbey. The group attended a pre-theatre reception and later adjourned to a local hostelry with some of the cast. For pictures see here BACK TO TOP |

Annual Corrib Medical Network DinnerGalway University Foundation hosted its annual Corrib Medical Network Dinner in the Shelbourne Hotel on Saturday, January 16th. The event acknowledges the tremendous support of network members in the development of the Translational Research Facility on the grounds of University Hospital Galway. This state of the art facility is expected to be opened in January 2011 to support pioneering translational research for cancer patients. BACK TO TOP |

1978 / 1979 ReunionAlmost €3,000 was raised for charity by the alumni of 1978 and 1979, friends, hangers-on and various fellow-travellers who gathered for their second reunion in two years on November 7th. A jam-packed day and night of events included a magnificent lecture by Hubert McDermott on James Joyce's The Dead, Lit & Deb, Speedie's Slideshow, Comedy Drama, a traditional Seisiuin, The Fuze, Big G's 70's Disco and various other shenanigans ... click here for pictures For more information, go directly to http://www.ucgstudents.com/ BACK TO TOP |

1984 and 1989 ReunionOver 300 alumni from the classes of 1984 and 1989 returned to Galway to celebrate their 25th and 20th reunions on November 7th. Graduates enjoyed a buffet lunch in the Aula Maxima and a bus tour of a radically developed campus. The classes gathered together again that evening for a reunion dinner in the Meyrick Hotel (formerly the Great Southern) with entertainment provided by Marc Roberts and DJ Kevin Belton. Galway Christmas Carol GatheringOver eighty alumni attended a Christmas gathering of Carols and seasonal cheer in the NUI Galway Staff Club in the quad the Friday before Christmas. Mince pies, mulled wine and various other seasonal nibbles were served. Members of BaCon Society, aided and abetted by alumna Riona Hughes, led the carol singing.
