Irish Universities and Colleges Alumni Thames Cruise: London, Thursday 9th September, 2010Join with graduates and alumni from other Irish universities and colleges for an autumn cruise along the Thames, with onboard barbeque and DJ. Tickets cost €40/£35 including dinner. The

HSE's CEO Addresses Challenges of Change: Aviva Stadium, Dublin, 24 June, 2010In June 2010, the head of Health Service Executive, Professor Brendan Drumm MB BCh BAO 1979, offered Dublin Club guests special insights into the challenges of change in the health sector. His presentation took place just weeks in advance of his retirement as Chief Executive of the organisation. RTÉ’s Dr Gavin Jennings BSc 1997, MB BCh BAO 1999 chaired the proceedings. The magnificent venue for the evening was the new Aviva Stadium, courtesy of its Director, Martin Murphy 1980. Special thanks to Aviva Stadium for the hospitality and tours of the stadium. |

2000 and 2005 Reunion BBQ: Galway, June 5, 2010The classes of 2000 and 2005 returned to NUI Galway to celebrate their 5th and 10th year reunion on the June bank holiday weekend. The celebrations were held in the Students' Union Bar with a BBQ on the patio overlooking the Corrib. The night finished up to the sounds of the late nineties and early noughties. Graduate Support Day – Back to Work: Galway, May 13th, 2010NUI Galway Career Development Centre and Alumni Office offered a Graduate Support Day in May 2010 to help graduates struggling to get or return to employment. Alumni HR specialists were on hand to offer CV clinics and interview training to their fellow graduates. Participants were also given access to exhibitors from a range of sectors as well as talks on the labour market, motivation, and how to make successful job applications. |

Cumann Caoga Bliain – 50th Anniversary Reunion: Galway, 9 April, 2010Over 100 graduates and friends attended the annual Cumann Caoga Bliain (50 Year Club) reunion in NUI Galway on 9th April. The programme included a reception, a bus tour of campus, a photographic exhibition, a remembrance mass, and a Reunion Ball in the former Great Southern Hotel (The Meyrick) – site of many memories from Balls held in the 1950s and before. This year's event was attended by alumni whose graduation years ranged from 1937 to the 1960s. The most senior attendee was Mrs Maureen O’Sullivan Hancock, a science graduate from 1937 aged 94, who upon arrival remarked with a wink “So where is the rest of my class?” |

Night of Traditional Music, Poetry, Song & Dance: Galway, 25 April, 2010Alumni were amongst the 500 guests who were treated to a night of Irish music, poetry, song and dance by some of the country’s finest practitioners in their craft. The concert held on campus in the Bailey Allen Hall was organised by students of the Arts in Action programme. The acts assembled by the students reads like a “who’s who?” list of performers of traditional arts: Frankie Gavin (fiddle), Máirtín O'Connor (accordion), Ronan Browne (uillean pipes), Seamie O'Dowd (guitar), Roisin Elsafty (sean-nós singing), Seosamh Ó Neachtain (sean-nós dancing), Mary Mc Partlan (traditional and contemporary singing), Lillis Ó Laoire (sean-nós singing) and Louis De Paor (Irish Poetry). Alumni guests were given an opportunity to mingle with the performers at a pre-event reception held by the Galway Alumni Club in the Corrib Room of the College Bar.

Sports Connect Leadership ProgrammeThe Ladies Hockey Club was the winner of the first NUI Galway Sports Connect Leadership Award. Sports Connect is a joint initiative between the Alumni Association, Sports Clubs, the ALIVE student volunteering programme and University’s Career and Student services.
