Applications Invited for Distance Learning MSc in Biomedical ScienceIs it several years since you graduated with a Science or Engineering degree? Do you feel that your specialist expertise may be a little ’rusty’? Would you like to update your skills and knowledge in the field of Biomedical Science? If the answer to these questions is yes, it may interest you to know that on August 27th 2010, the 3rd cycle of our distance learning MSc in Biomedical Science will begin, hosted in the NCBES at NUIG.
The PG Cert and MSc were developed at NUIG in 2005 and are delivered through the National Centre for Biomedical Engineering Science (NCBES). Programme contributors include senior academics, industry experts, and scientists who are actively engaged in research in all areas of biomedical science.
In summary, our Biomedical Science MSc programme is delivered over two years, during which time 12 taught modules and a research project are completed. Modules completed in year 1 are: Molecular and Cellular Biology; Histology; Gross Anatomy; Innovation & Technology Transfer; Biomaterials; A practicals module (attendance for one week full-time required).
In year two, core modules are: Biomechanics; Molecular & Regenerative Medicine; Applied Pharmacology & Toxicology
Additional options include: Stereology; Tissue Engineering; Monitoring for health hazards at work; Product Development, Validation & Regulation; Project Management + Experimental Design and Data Analysis; Lasers & Applications.
For those unable to commit to a two-year programme, completion of the 6 modules taught in year 1 will enable them to gain a qualification in the form of a postgraduate certificate in Biomedical Science. If on completion of the second year of the MSc a student is unable to carry out a research project, they still have the option of exiting with a postgraduate diploma in Biomedical Science.
Student testimonials as well as more detailed descriptions of the modules, entry requirements and other aspects of the programmes, including a FAQ sheet, can be found on the NCBES education pages ( www.ncbes.ie/education ). You may also find entries on the course blog useful ( http://www.mscbiomedicalscience.blogspot.com/ ).
The deadline for online applications is April 16th 2010. To apply, go to http://www.pac.ie/ and look for course code GYS19 or GYS20.
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me if you have any queries regarding any aspect of our programmes.
