tara and the m3 motorway
The Department of Archaeology in NUI Galway has been active in its opposition to the proposal to run the M3 toll-motorway between Tara and Skryne and in its support for locally based groups who campaigned against this spectacular example of bad planning. This controversy focused attention on archaeology and the planning process, on the ethical relationship between archaeologists and developers and on the systematic diminution of the powers of the State's heritage protection agencies.
