Biography
Stefan Bergh is a graduate of University of Stockholm from which he received his PhD in 1995. The PhD research was focused on the Irish Passage Tomb Tradition, involving extensive fieldwork in mainly the west of Ireland. He worked for 10 years as an Archaeologist and later as a Senior Archaeologist with the Bureau of Archaeological Excavations, National Heritage Board, Sweden. In 1998 a Post Doctoral Research Fellowship to explore the archaeology of Knocknarea Mountain, Co. Sligo, brought him back to Irish soil. Stefan joined the Department of Archaeology, NUI, Galway in 2001, where he is the Programme Director for the MA in Landscape Archaeology, and also teaches undergraduate courses in prehistoric archaeology. Stefan has initiated various archaeological projects focusing on upland archaeology in the west of Ireland, which in various forms have received substantial funding from
