AR117 Approaching The Past
Module Summary
Approaching the Past introduces students to the variety of work archaeologists do and the ethics of doing archaeology. The course focuses in particular on some of the methods, techniques and theories we use to interpret past societies. Through a series of assessments students enquire into some of these issues while at the same time receiving guidance to develop writing, referencing, bibliographic and other research skills. Students participate in a series of seminars rather than formal lectures. This means a smaller group with more time for discussion, examination of archaeological artefacts and questions. The course is co-ordinated by two academic members of staff and taught by postgraduate tutors. Each group has one tutor through-out the year.
