Theatre
NUI Galway has a proud tradition of student drama. Its vibrant theatrical culture encompasses both the Siobhan Mc Kenna era and the founding of the Galway Druid theatre company. In July 2000 the Bank of Ireland Theatre at Áras na MacLéinn was officially opened to serve the needs of both the campus and city population. The venue is used intensively by students on the MA in Drama and Theatre studies programme and by the various student societies involved in the performing arts. Possessing state-of-the-art light and audio rigging, the black box space is a key centre for innovation and much cutting edge new work is devised and produced by the students here. Additionally the theatre hosts a range of productions and developmental workshops by touring theatre and dance companies throughout the year. Since its opening, showcased work in the space, as have internationally renowned theatre performers from all over Europe.
