Hello, my name is Jennifer FitzGerald. I am a PhD student in Noel Lowndes’ lab. My work in the lab involves characterisation of a protein that functions in the DNA damage checkpoint pathway triggered in response to ionising radiation.
I am very proud to say that I am from the great city of Limerick, a thriving area which has undergone a revival in recent years: new shops, businesses and hotels have been built, and Limerick has trendy bars and nightclubs that even rival Galway’s!!!
I graduated from the University of Limerick in 2003 with a degree in Industrial Biochemistry. My previous work experience includes a summer traineeship at Purdue University in the USA in 2003 where I learned basic molecular biology techniques. I also worked in the Clinical Biochemistry lab, Mid-Western Regional Hospital, Limerick, in 2002.
I like to listen to music: The Frames, Radiohead, Pink Floyd, David Bowie, and Justin Timberlake(!), and try to go to gigs as often as possible (I’ve seen The Frames live seven times!).
