Your Blackboard password cannot be modified or changed on the Blackboard system. This is because Blackboard does not store your password, but instead authenticates your log in username on the university's directory service. As a staff member, you must modify your password within the NUI Galway email system, should you wish to do so.

How to reset your Blackboard Password

Go to https://staffmail.nuigalway.ie and log in using your staff ID, and email password.
Go to Options, and scroll down the page to the Password section
Click on the Change Password button.

5. Enter your domain, staff ID, along with your current (i.e. Old) password, along with the new password you wish to modify this to.

6. Click OK. You will receive the following notification: “Password successfully changed”

Troubleshooting

If you receive the message that the password is too short or password uniqueness restrictions have not been met, then this indicates the following:

You are attempting to reset a password to one held previously. It is not possible to reset a new password, to an older password that you previously used. The built in security policy for Windows does not allow passwords to be re-used and it keeps a history of user passwords. All NUI Galway users must change their passwords each time, as opposed to re-using the same password over again, for security reasons.
You need to make the password longer.
