Blackboard is integrated with the Student Information System (Quercus Plus). Once a student is registered for a course that is using Blackboard, they will be automatically enrolled in this course and able to access the relevant material.
As students begin to register for the new academic year in August/September, they will appear in the list of enrolled students on their respective Blackboard courses automatically within 24 hours. Students will lose access to courses from the previous academic year. The student registration schedule is viewable online from the Registration Office.
The diagram below illustrates how this process works:
Blackboard accounts are created automatically for all registered NUI Galway students, as part of the university account creation process. However, in many cases the students would not yet be aware of this. You will be their main point of contact for information about how to login and access your course, so you should tell them about this in class or in course handbooks.
Students can log in at
https://nuigalway.blackboard.com/ using their Student ID and
CASS (Campus Account Self Service) password. Any problems can be dealt with by the
Service Desk in Information Solutions and Services (ISS), email

You will not need to enrol students on your Blackboard Course manually, as they will automatically be enrolled from the Quercus Plus (Student Informaiton System). However, it is possible to override this mechanism and manually enrol students, but this is not advisable. If you opt to manually enrol a student, you will also need to unenrol them at the end of the semester or academic session. They will not be able to unenrol out of this course by any other method, as their enrolment will not be processed by the automatic proceedure outlined in the diagram above. You can enrol users in your own course using 'enrol users' in the 'control panel'. This lets you search the main blackboard database to locate the appropriate person. It is best to search on the student's ID number, in order to be sure of identifying the correct person
Yes, but we urge caution here as it is easy to remove the wrong person (including any associated assessment records)! You can remove users from your own course using the same process as used to remove instructors.
N.B. This will destroy any assessments or contribution made by this user, so PLEASE be careful!
