Sites for large building contracts on campus should contain facilities for incumbent contract staff parking inside the hoarding of that site. For all other minor contracts there is a short-term contractors permit (valid for use on the main campus). All contractor permits will be issued by the Student Information Desk who will keep a list of all applications, and who will verify the application with the relevant University supervisor. This permit is intended to facilitate contractors/suppliers who CANNOT use loading bays and will be assessed accordingly on a case-by-case basis. Loading bays are located in various locations around the campus.
If a contractor/supplier CAN use a loading bay effectively, they will be afforded a reasonable grace period (approx 20 minutes), so long as they are ACTIVELY loading and unloading. The reason for this restriction is the potential for a large numbers of contractors' vehicles being present on campus in loading bays and measures must be taken to reduce their impact on the parking facilities/circulation routes.
The Student Information Desk should be given reasonable notice of requests for contractor permits. There is a charge for contractor permits, please see Schedule of Charges-C1. Contractors will not be given a grace period to obtain a permit and will have to use Pay & Display until they can display a valid contractors permit. Each contractor is entitled at maximum to one permit of one month’s duration to cover all of the contracts they are working on.
Note: Solicitations direct to the desk/staff of the Buildings Office/Student Information Desk will be redirected to the above system. Contractors should use Pay & Display until they can obtain a permit.
You must purchase a valid Pay & Display ticket to park in Pay & Display spaces, regardless of any other permit you may hold.
Inappropriate behaviour will not be tolerated and contractors will be prohibited from entering campus if they are found to be in contravention of the parking rules and regulations. This includes any tampering with the clamp or attempts to convince the clamper they are exempt from parking regulations. All contractors must inform sub-contractors of these rules in advance of start on site. Please note that the clamping agent may reserve the right to pursue any matters relating to their staff or property (including wheel clamps).
A process is in place to handle any appeals to the above system or fines applied for individual clamping incidents. Forms are available at www.nuigalway.ie/parking and should be addressed to Parking Management Appeals Group, c/o Buildings Office, NUI Galway" within two months from the date of clamping. Appeals can only be considered when submitted on this form.
