retired staff
Retired staff are not entitled as of right to a University Parking Permit, but may apply for one in particular circumstances. Where retired staff continue to make an active and significant contribution to the University they may apply for an annually renewable permit on a concessionary basis. If you are retired and wish to request a permit, please ask for an application form from the Management Services Office (Extension 4141, email "Management Services office" or
mso
nuigalway.ie). This will allow your request to be considered by the Executive Director of Operations.
The application form will ask for:
- A note of the contribution which you are making to the work of the University;
- An indication of the time commitment involved in your contribution;
- For former academic staff, the form will request signatures from the relevent Head of School or Research Institute
and the relevant Dean;
- For former support staff, the form will request signatures from the relevant Support Service Director
and the relevant University Management Team member.
This process is designed to make it as straightforward as possible to meet the needs of retired staff who continue to contribute to the work of the University, while regulating access to parking space, which is of course a scarce resource.
You will be informed if your request has been successful and then you will be required to complete the necessary parking permit application form(s) as if you were a current member of staff. There is a charge for the permit which is payable by cash or cheque. All income from parking permits is offset against the cost of parking and mobility management.
