Statutory Role
The Bursar’s statutory role is to act as Chief Financial Adviser to the President, the Governing Authority and its Finance Resource Committee and to be responsible for the overall Financial Planning and Financial Management of the University and matters related thereto, in accordance with decisions of the Governing Authority.
Bursar: Mary Dooley (FCA MBA)
Mary Dooley was appointed Bursar of the National University of Ireland Galway in late 1993. Mary is a native of Dublin, is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland, and is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin. She has held senior management positions in the entertainment, pharmaceutical, health and education sectors, working with Ryan Hotels Plc, Warner Communications Inc, Bristol Myers Inc, St. James's Hospital and NUI Galway. She has been a board member and audit committee chair of both public and private enterprises including commercial, cultural and charitable organisations.
