English Language Courses
Ireland is a very popular location for students who wish to learn English. It is the spoken language of the majority of Irish Citizens and Ireland has had the distinction of receiving the Nobel Prize for Literature on four occasions; the most recent recipient being the poet, Seamus Heaney. Indeed, many of the great names of English Literature have been Irish; Joyce, Yeats, Beckett, Shaw and O’Casey to name but a few. Ireland is the land of history and heritage, of music and merriment, of character and charm. We welcome you to where genuine hospitality is part of our culture… it’s just the way we are. Ireland offers students the opportunity to have a very enjoyable holiday while learning English in a rich, cultural environment.
Courses will be held at the National University of Ireland, Galway. The exact venue will be confirmed to students prior their arrival.
Students must pay online by credit card (Visa or Mastercard only). On completion of registration, you will receive a confirmation email stating the options selected and fee deducted from your card.
Conditions of Registration
Students are expected to insure themselves against theft, loss, accidents and damage or medical expenses that may arise. The organising committee does not accept responsibility for any of the above.
Provided a written cancellation is received 6 weeks prior to arrival, the full payment (minus 20% for bank charges and handling) will be refunded. No refunds will be given after that date. The cancellation policy applies to all reservations made. No telephone cancellations will be accepted. Please submit cancellation in writing to the English Language Centre.

A range of English language courses are offered – General English – Intermediate, Advanced and Proficiency Levels and also Business English. These courses are not designed for beginners. Students must be 18 years or over, and must have already attained at least post elementary/lower intermediate standard.
Study in Galway will give students an opportunity to improve their English in the attractive rural environment of the West of Ireland. An important aspect of the programme will be an introduction to the rich cultural life of Galway and the West of Ireland.
SU291 General English – Intermediate Level
This two or three-week course is designed to develop fluency and communicative skills. There will be morning classes covering relevant grammar topics, vocabulary, related reading material and listening exercises. The course will also address material relevant to the Cambridge First Certificate in English.
SU292 General English – Advanced Level
This two or three-week course will extend the advanced student’s knowledge of English vocabulary, grammar and idiom, and will also develop fluency. Emphasis in the morning sessions is on speaking and listening skills. The classes will also be suitable for students who wish to sit the Cambridge Examination in Advanced English.
SU293 – General English – Proficiency Level
This two or three-week course is designed for students who have reached Advanced Level and wish to prepare for the Cambridge Proficiency Examination. Classes will concentrate on the use of authentic materials, fluency, advanced idiom practice and regional accent variations. The course will also cover the use of English for Academic Purposes.
SU294 Business English Course
This two-week course is intended for people with a business background or students of business and commerce. Morning sessions concentrate on language functions and vocabulary relevant to business life/business communications. Please note there must be a minimum of four students to run this course.
Classes will be restricted in size appropriate to intensive English language tuition. The courses are structured to cover grammar, conversation/culture and listening comprehension. Student participation is encouraged through topic-based communicative activities – debates, discussions, role-play, reports and presentation on such topics as modern society; the media, advertising, politics, the arts, etc.
Social and Leisure Programme
One excursion per week is included in the cost and may include the Aran Islands, a cruise on Lough Corrib or a visit to the theatre. In addition, Galway is bustling during the summer months and details of the various festivals/events will be sent with the registration information.
Students may also use NUI Galway's state-of-the-art sports and leisure complex at special rates.

Galway is a vibrant, cosmopolitan city steeped in culture, rich in folklore and famous for its cobble-stoned streets, quaint shops and charming restaurants. Home to the world renowned Druid Theatre Company, Macnas Street Theatre Company and An Taibhdhearc, there is much to do in this wonderful city. The landscape leaves one breathless from the prehistoric fort of Dun Aengus, the most westerly point in Europe, to Connemara and the Burren, Galway boasts some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. Galway city is now regarded by many as the cultural capital of Ireland. It is home to numerous festivals during the summer months, including the internationally renowned Galway Arts Festival which will take place in the city from 15th July – 28th July.
The fee included for accommodation is for Corrib Village, NUI Galway’s student accommodation, which is beautifully situated on the University campus overlooking the
River Corrib. The complex, comprised of apartments, has capacity for 800 people and boasts a wide range of on-site facilities such as free Wi-Fi, a self-service laundrette, a convenience shop, tennis courts and a free shuttle bus service to the city centre. Guests can also avail of an on-site games room and a barbeque area for those long summer evenings. In addition, reception staff and security personnel are on hand 24/7 to ensure an enjoyable and hassle-free stay for all guests. Participants are allocated single bedrooms in an apartment, which contains a fully equipped kitchen, a comfortable living area complete with digital TV and a bathroom. Breakfast is not included in the price; there are kitchen facilities in all apartments and there is a range of campus restaurants to choose from.
