Biography

Professor Scullion is a leading scholar in International  Management with an international research reputation in International HRM. A recent study by the University of Barcelona, (A Historical Review of Talent Management Research, 2013, Human Resource Management review, 2014) ranked Prof Scullion as no 1 in the world for research productivity in Talent Management. In addition to publishing in world class US and European journals such as Academy of Management Journal, Journal of World Business and Human Resource Management Review, Professor Scullion is a lead member of a number of top international research networks including the Global Talent Management and Global Staffing research networks.

Hugh has produced a number of influential books, including Social Organization of Industrial Conflict which has attained the status of a classic in the field.  His recent books involved collaboration with leading international scholars. The influential International HRM: a Critical Text (Palgrave, 2006) was followed by two seminal books  Global Staffing ( 2007) and Global Talent Management ( 2011) which contributed  to the prestigious Routledge Global Human Resource Management series. His new book Strategic Talent Management: Contemporary Issues in a Global Context (with Sparrow and Tarique) was published  by Cambridge University Press in 2014.

Hugh's research played a major role in developing the International HRM and Global Talent  Management fields in Europe.  His research has shaped the agenda for research in these fields and he has established his reputation as a global leader in the niche areas of global staffing, global talent management and the role of the corporate HR function in the global firm. Hugh has developed an international network of top scholars in International Management in Europe, North America and Asia  which he uses to promote research collaboration.

Hugh plays an influential role in international conference organization and is regularly invited to act as track chair and keynote speaker for world class conferences such as Academy of Management, the Academy of International Business and the European International Business Academy.  He is the co founder and co- chair for the European Institute for the Advanced Study of Management (EIASM) workshop on Talent Management which ran in Brussels in 2012 and 2013, and in Berlin in 2014.  Hugh has been invited to act as Co-chair of the Professional Development Workshops at the Academy of Management conference in Chicago ( 2010), Boston ( 2012) and  Philadelphia (2014).
 
Hugh is increasingly active in the area of executive education, and has acted as adviser and consultant to leading companies including Rolls Royce plc, Sun Microsystems, Scottish and Newcastle International, Boots plc, CRH plc and Telecom Malaysia.  Before joining NUI Galway, Professor Scullion was Director of the internationally acclaimed  Strathclyde International Business Unit (SIBU) at Strathclyde Business School from 2001-2007. In his role as Head of the Management Discipline at NUI Galway Hugh made a leadership contribution through helping to shape the development and internationalisation of an emerging business school. Hugh  co-founded the Masters in International Management, which won the national Postgraduate Course of the Year (Business) Award in 2013.
