Law of the Sea Conference: Global Challenges and Freedom of Navigation

The School of Law at NUI Galway, with the Center for Oceans Law and Policy at the University of Virginia, the Korean Maritime Institute, the Centre for International Law at the National University of Singapore, the South China Sea Institute at Xiamen University, is a co-convener of the 37th Annual Oceans Law and Policy Conference, which will take place in Seoul, 1-3 May, 2013. This year’s conference will address a range of contemporary legal issues concerning energy security, piracy, transnational threats to international peace and stability, the Arctic Ocean, marine environmental protection, as well as scientific research, among many others.

Keynote speakers at this year’s conference include: Tommy Koh (former president of UNCLOS III and Ambassador-At-Large for the Government of Singapore), Arif Havas Oegroseno (Ambassador of Indonesia to the European Union) and Admiral Scott H. Swift (Commander of the United States 7th Fleet).
