John is a graduate of NUI Galway where he studied English and Sociology & Politics in his primary degree and then the Higher Diploma in Education. He pursued guidance qualifications from UCD (Guidance and Counselling) and NUI Maynooth (Management of Adult Guidance).
Following a number of years experience at second level as a Guidance Counsellor, lecturer and teacher trainer for the Department of Education, John was appointed to NUI Galway Careers Service in 1998.
During the period since John had particular responsibility for the Arts Faculty and became Senior Careers Adviser in 1992. John was appointed to Head of the Career Development Centre in 2007.

Josephine
Walsh

Josephine is a graduate of NUI Galway, where she completed a B.Comm and H Dip in Education. She spent 16 years working in industry in a variety of management roles and was a self employed Training and Development Consultant for 8 years. In this role she worked with a variety of industries designing and delivering management and communication skills training programmes. An ongoing interest in career development and extensive experience coaching individuals for interview prompted Josephine to complete a PG Dip in Guidance Counselling in UL. Making a significant career change, she joined the Career Development Centre on a part time basis in October 2007 and full time from June 2008. Josephine has responsibility for the Colleges of Business, Public Policy and Law and Engineering and Informatics.

Dearbhla is the initial point of contact for screening of student queries at the outset of service delivery and is the first port of call for 'meeting and greeting’ clients. Part of her role is to assist clients in locating careers information related to their specific enquiry and need. She advises clients of ’quick-query’ and consultation sessions and assists clients who are information seeking.
Dearbhla is a graduate of University of Aberystwyth Wales and completed a BSc Econ Information & Librarianship Studies Degree and Diploma. She has conducted research into the career information needs and expectations of NUIG Arts, Commerce and Science students. She is also a graduate of the University of Reading and completed a Certificate in Higher Education in Careers Information, Education and Vocational Guidance. Dearbhla is a member of The Association of Higher Education Career Services in Ireland, Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services UK and The Chartered Institute of Information and Library professionals.

Kendra joined the careers team at NUIG as Information Assistant in 1999 and was appointed Information Systems Officer in 2002. As well as having responsibility for our annual graduate survey and subsequent statistics, Kendra is also responsible for all areas of information provision within the centre, including our website. She was instrumental in the design and layout of the Information Room and key developments in recent years include our self-help leaflets which outline options with specific subjects and also frequently asked questions (FAQs) on routes into careers such as teaching.

Deirdre is a graduate of NUI Galway where she completed a Bachelor of Commerce Degree. She also attended GMIT where she studied Business Information Systems and is currently completing a Masters in Careers Education, Information and Guidance in Higher Education in the University of Warwick.

Pamela is a graduate of NUI Galway where she studied a BA in English and History. She has also completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Technical Communication at the University of Limerick and a Diploma in Management with the Chartered Institute of Management.
Pamela has seven years experience in developing and delivering training materials across a variety of industries. She joined the Career Development Centre as Transferable Skills Officer in September 2008. Her role is focused on the integration and delivery of transferable skills programmes and researching graduate employability.
