London Irish Graduate Network (LIGN)
LIGN was established in September 2010 to help young Irish graduates and students emigrating to London to enhance their employment prospects and establish a social and networking platform.
Recent events have included a graduate focused event, whereby we got a number of our members who are employed in highly reputable companies to speak to members about their interview experiences, and their day to day roles. We have also held information sessions, debates and guest speaker events, where guests have ranged from Irish financiers, to European Professors and Irish Dignitaries. All our formal events end with a social setting to facilitate networking. We will be running a number of similar events from October 2011 onwards and feel they will be very beneficial to all our members.
Our current aim is to increase our membership base, as we feel that the benefits of being involved in this society increase exponentially as the membership base increases. We are looking for a broad range of business-focused members, who are aspiring business leaders in their respective fields. We are also open to hearing from other non-business related candidates who could potentially add unique benefits to the society, and our members.

New requirements for teachers training abroad from 2011
The Teaching Council is the designated authority for the recognition of teaching qualifications under Council Directive 2005/36/EC1 in Ireland. To ensure compliance with The Teaching Council’s recently published Registration Regulations2 and the Directive, the Council wishes to advise of revised procedures for the assessment of teaching qualifications coming within the terms of the Directive.
Persons wishing to apply for registration under the terms of the Directive must be fully recognised/registered as teachers in another EEA Member State3 and provide certification thereof when applying for registration with the Teaching Council of Ireland. In practice, this means that persons commencing a teacher education qualification in another EEA Member State from 01/01/2011 onwards must also complete any required period of postqualification professional practice (e.g. N.Q.T. or Induction year) and be fully recognised/registered under the terms of the Directive 2005/36/EC by the designated authority of that Member State prior to seeking registration with The Teaching Council in Ireland.
This update does not change existing arrangements for those persons who have commenced a teaching qualification outside of Ireland prior to 31/12/2010.
1 European Directive 2005/36/EC aids mobility by obliging Member States to consider the qualifications acquired elsewhere in the Community to allow access to a regulated profession in their territory. The Directive is available on the website of the European Commission at
http://ec.europa.eu/
2 The [Registration] Regulations 2009 are available on the website of the Teaching Council at
http://www.teachingcouncil.ie/
3 Please check with the designated authority of the EEA Member State in which the teacher education qualification is being provided with regard to the requirements for registration that meets the terms of Council Directive 2005/36/EC. The designated authority is usually the General Teaching Council or Ministry for Education in that Member State.

The Music Show RDS October 3-4
The Music Show, Ireland's ultimate education event, which features a series of career guidance lectures, seminars and workshops on the theme of music.
Last year, students – many with CVs in hand – checked out music training colleges, tested the huge array of musical instruments, experimented with the latest music technology and recording software, not to mention indulging in a bit of genuine star-spotting over the weekend! This weekend is a must-see for those with an interest in music, industry, business, marketing, media or management.
Because of its careers-focus and the key domestic and international industry figures taking part in the panel discussions, the Show also provides a unique opportunity for students finding it hard to focus on career options, by communicating with them on a theme that they can relate to – music!
