This page is for students currently studying for a degree who wish to do Radiography after their degree.
Radiography has 2 distinct areas:
In Ireland there are only 3 universities offering courses:
According to the IIRRT: The Irish Institute of Radiography and Radiation Therapy accredits the UCD Diagnostic Radiography undergraduate degree programme and the TCD Radiation Therapy undergraduate degree programme. Graduates of these programmes do not have to apply for qualification recognition.
There are no conversion courses in Ireland for graduates of other degrees, however they can apply for a second degree through the CAO before February 1st.
All radiographers who have gained their radiographic qualification outside the Republic of Ireland must individually apply to the Minister for Health and Children to have their qualifications validated before taking up employment in Ireland.
See
http://www.iirrt.ie/ (Become a Member section) for contact details.
Read the IIRRT's FAQ's carefully as they deal with issues around studying abroad.
UK
See NHS where there is more information about working as a radiographer or Society of Radiographers websites.
For degrees in the UK - apply through UCAS
Universities are beginning to introduce a 2 year postgraduate course that is aimed at Health/Science graduates who would like to become Radiographers and work in the UK. To apply, contact the university directly.
Please note that as accredited courses in Ireland are 4-years long, there may be a shortfall in requirements for validation in Ireland if taking a 2-year course - check with IIRRT for information.
The
Health Professions Council
will have the most up to date list of ALL accredited courses in the UK.
