Five skills / qualities recruiters are looking for are:
- Business Awareness. Work experience of any sort is highly sought after by employers. Being aware of issues that affect businesses as well as the nature of the business will be useful. See our Work Experience leaflet for ideas.
- Communication – presenting ideas and information in a clear, succinct, logical style either in writing or orally. Students of Latin and Greek develop flexibility in the use of language – an advantage when seeking jobs which require manipulation of language (e.g. editing, writing, translation etc.)
- Leadership – e.g., any experience you have of running an event, either student or club, or being active on a committee or the Alive programme while in university.
- Team Work – this can be developed through sports, societies, work experience, projects and volunteering.
- Problem Solving – A lot of work done as a student involves finding an answer to a set problem - employers want to see that you can use reason.
