The key goals for the Competence Centre will be:

• To develop intellectual property on second-generation feedstocks and conversion technologies that enables participant companies to provide lowest-cost, competitive bioenergy (e.g. transport fuel and electricity), valuable co-products and technology licenses to the worldwide market;

• To develop a database of all available international technologies and bioenergy practices that can be examined, harnessed, licensed and applied by participant companies in providing bioenergy products and services to the international market; 

• To investigate pilot-scale facility availability to demonstrate the conversion of priority biomass feedstocks to bioproducts (energy and co‐products) at pre‐commercial and pilot-commercial scale;

• To improve understanding of the potential of Ireland to develop a successful renewable biomass industry;

• To establish a solid reputation for the value and contribution of industry‐led biomass research.
