The Competence Centre for Bioenergy and Biorefining is being co-hosted by
three academic institutions - National University
of Ireland, Galway (NUI Galway), University of Limerick (UL) and University College
Dublin (UCD) - during this, the start-up, phase.

However, the Centre will be independent of those institutions, and
managed and governed by an industry-led board.
The development and
research work of the CCBB is being overseen by a board, with representatives from industry
(Alltech, Bord na Mona, Biomass Heating,
Kedco, Imperative Energy, and
Biorefining Ireland) and academia (NUI Galway, UCD, UL).
The board is chaired by an
independent industry member. A Technology Leader is being recruited to manage and
develop the Centre on a day-to-day basis. Other companies currently involved in
the initiative include AER, Clearpower, Eirzyme, FLI/3NRG and One51.
