03/04/2012 Centre for disability law and policy and amnesty international host conference looking Globally, legislating locally.
On April 3rd, the Centre for
Disability Law and Policy and Amnesty jointly hosted a seminar
exploring how Ireland can learn from other jurisdictions on legislating
for legal capacity in the Radisson Blu, Golden Lane, Dublin. This seminar examined practical and technical
legislative solutions to ensure that Ireland can comply with its
obligations under international human rights law, most specifically
Article 12 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with
Disabilities.

Towards the close of the Conference, Prof. Gerard Quinn
from the Centre for Disability Law and Policy
launched the Essential Principles: Irish Legal Capacity Law, devised by 15 groups from Ireland, that must underpin the new capacity legislation. These
