November 2012 - CDLP Brown bag seminar - E-Acessibility: Legislation Review and Building the Business Case
The Centre was thrilled to host Robert Huffaker for a number of days in early November 2012. Robert is a newly admitted external PhD student at NUIG and is a Marie Curie Fellow with the Disability Rights Expanding Accessible Markets (DREAM) Programme.
Robert held a seminar at the Centre, which discussed his studies, which focus on expanding European markets of accessible Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), in relation to consumers with disabilities. It included the significance of social inclusion and accessibility in the context of disability, as well as research on the business case for European reform.
Based on the assumption that doing the right thing for Europeans with disabilities is not only morally necessary, but is also good for European business, his work will explore the market potential for the ICT sector to grow its global reach if its products and services become sufficiently accessible.
Robert's continuing research will underpin the cost-benefit analysis of businesses, pertaining to examples of Web Accessibility, and Self-Service Terminals (SSTs), who endeavor in the field of eAccessibility, illuminating the positives of ensuring universal access to persons with disabilities (PwD) as defined by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities of 2006 (UN CRPD).
