PROF. THERESA WILLIAMS
Professor Theresa Williams is
Director of the Western Australian Mental Health Policy Research Centre, Adjunct Associate Professor with the Centre for Research into Disability and Society, Curtin University, and Adjunct Associate Professor, School of Psychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences, University of Western Australia.
Professor Williams visited the Centre at Galway in June 2012 whilst on a fellowship from The Winston Churchill Memorial Trust. She attended the Centre's 4th International Disability Summer School whilst here.
A report, studied in part while in Galway, was published as part of the fellowship and is available here under permission from the The Winston Churchill Memorial Trust. It investigates the policy and practice of self-directed support for people with a mental illness and is the product of research visits made in 2012 to England, Scotland, Ireland, Belgium and the Netherlands. These countries provided examples of different policy approaches at varying stages of implementing self-directed support with a view to learning what might work in Australia.
