President's Awards for Teaching Excellence 2006-2007

The President's Awards for Teaching Excellence recognise the outstanding efforts academic staff make to ensure NUI Galway students receive the highest quality learning experience.

For 2006-2007, more than 60 nominations were received, a large number of these were from current students and alumni. Based on the valid nominations, 48 staff members were invited to progress to the second stage of the process and submit supporting materials and a concise supporting case document. Of this group, 37 people submitted materials, each demonstrating excellence.

After careful deliberation, six faculty members were selected and were presented with the NUI Galway President's Awards for Teaching Excellence 2006-2007. The six are:

• Dr Peter Cantillon of the College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, School of Medicine (General Practice).*
• Dr Aidan Daly of the Faculty of Commerce (Marketing).
• Dr Ros Dixon, College of Arts, Social Science & Celtic Studies, School of Humanities(English).
• Dr Nathan Quinlan of the College of Engineering and Informatics, School of Engineering and Informatics (Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering).
• Dr Ray Murphy of the Faculty of Law (Irish Centre for Human Rights).*
• Dr. Ray Ryan of the College of Science, School of Mathematical Sciences (Mathematics)

The awards were presented at the appropriate conferring ceremonies in October and November* 2007

The Awards Panel consisted of senior staff in the University including the President, the Registrar, Deans, the Director of Quality, the Director of CELT, the Education Officer of the Students' Union and an external colleague, Prof. Bob Matthew (Head of the Teaching & Learning Service of the University of Glasgow).
