The President's Awards for Teaching Excellence recognise the outstanding efforts academic staff make to ensure NUI Galway students receive the highest quality learning experience.
For 2007-2008, more than 19 nominations were received, a large number of these were from current students and alumni, and the nominees were invited to progress to the second stage of the process and submit supporting materials and a concise supporting case document. Of this group, 18 people submitted materials, each demonstrating excellence.
After careful deliberation, five members of academic staff were selected to be presented with the NUI Galway President's Awards for Teaching Excellence 2007-2008. The five are:
The awards were presented by the President at the conferring ceremonies in October, 2008.
The Awards Panel consisted of senior staff in the University including the President, the Registrar, Deans, the Director of Quality, the Assistant Director of CELT, the Education Officer of the Students' Union and an external colleague, Prof. Áine Hyland (former Vice President UCC and Professor in Education).
