Diploma Supplement

The Diploma Supplement is a document that accompanies the qualifications transcript issued to graduates. The purpose of the Diploma Supplement is to aid recognition of qualifications and hence the mobility of students by providing a transparent, easily understood record of qualifcations.

Ideally the Diploma Supplement will be issued automatically and free of charge to all higher education graduates.

The Diploma Supplement should include:

• name, date of birth and student number of the graduate
• details about the qualification, such as the main field(s) of study, and the main language of instruction and examination
• the level of the qualifcation as located on the National Framework of Qualifications
• programme requirements, modules studied, results obtained, ECTS, the grading system applied, and the overall grade or classifcation awarded
• functions of the qualification, for example if it grants access to further study or if there is a professional status associated with the qualification.

Currently in NUI Galway the Diploma Supplement is automatically issued to all graduates of undergraduate programmes and will be posted to the same address as exam transcripts.
