Researchers

Tom Gillespie

Dr. Tom Gillespie is a Postdoctoral Researcher on an EPA funded project "Climate Resilient Places", led by Dr. Tom McDermott. Tom recently completed his PhD in environmental economics at the University of Galway, which was funded by the Irish Research Council. His PhD research used house price data from daft.ie to look at flood risk in the Irish housing market and people's willingness to pay for blue and green spaces. Patrick McHale 

Patrick is a Research Assistant on the College of Business Public Policy and Law seed-funded project “Endowments at birth and parental investments in children: The role of cultural institutions”, led by Dr. Matthew Collins (Economics) and Dr. Devon Spika (University of Zürich). Patrick is a University of Galway graduate, holding an MSc in Global Environmental Economics and a BSc in Financial Mathematics and Economics. Michael Puchley

Michael is a Research Assistant on the SFI funded project StopFloods4.ie, led by Dr. Tom McDermott (Economics) and Dr. Indiana Olbert (Engineering). Michael holds an MSc in Global Environmental Economics from the University of Galway, and a BA in Geology from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. He has 5 years of experience working in geotechnical engineering and consulting and he is a registered geologist in the state of North Carolina. Julian Worley

Dr. Julian Worley is a Postdoctoral Researcher with the SmartDairy project at the University of Galway. Her work focuses on the intersection of sustainability and food production, where she aims to help maintain food security for all without bankrupting the environment, the farmer, or the consumer. This focus leads her to work in several areas, including behavioral, environmental, and production economics.  She earned her PhD in Agricultural and Applied Economics from the University of Georgia, USA, under the supervision of Dr. Jeff Dorfman, where she studied the impacts of short term and long-term risk shocks on optimal production plant allocations for beef production firms. Adetunji Adeleke

Adetunji is a PhD student in Economics, funded by the College of Business, Public Policy and Law, University of Galway. His PhD topic is on Coexisting Forms of Malnutrition in Sub-Saharan Africa. Zaid is a PhD student in Economics and a University of Galway Hardiman Scholar. His PhD topic uses machine-learning methods to examine heterogeneous treatment effects for cost-effectiveness analysis and his supervisors are Dr. Edel Doherty and Dr. Stephen O Neill (London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine).
