The School of Chemistry, founded with the then Queen's College in 1849, is one of the most active in the country. The dynamic research activity within the school involves over sixty postgraduate students and postdoctoral researchers. Our undergraduate numbers are about 780; some 80 students are engaged in three-year General B. Sc. and four-year Honours B. Sc. programmes.
Our mission may be summarised:
excellence in teaching and research. Our programmes have the following objectives:
To train and educate students to the highest level of professional and scientific standards, and, international recognition.
To produce scientifically literate graduates with a broad and deep knowledge of fundamental chemical principles who can function independently with the confidence to tackle any problems in chemistry.
To expand the base of chemical knowledge through original research.
