Chemical Synthesis, STRUCTURE and reaction mechanism
The groups in these areas synthesise new molecules, determine their structure and unravel reaction mechanisms.
New synthetic methods are being developed and reaction mechanisms are being studied. Links to the “Materials and Molecules with Biomedical Applications” cluster exist but areas of interest are not confined to biomedically relevant reactions.
Current synthetic research includes:
(1)
chiral synthesis using immobilised catalysts
(2)
cascade synthesis of highly fluorescent systems
Crystallography Center:
The
Crystallography Center is involved in Structure Determination using X-ray Diffraction and is a partner in
SSPC the SFI Crystallisation Cluster.
Reaction mechanisms are studied in the following areas:
(1) Organic chemistry
Water catalysed reactions;
Hydrolysis of sulfamate esters
(2)
Inorganic Reaction Mechanisms
