CH207 Computers in Chemistry
This hands-on course is held in the Corrib PC suite only on Monday afternoons from 2 until 6 pm in the first semester. It consists of a number of classes which teach you how to write a document (Word), do repetitive calculations and plot graphs (Excel), sketch molecules in two-dimensions (IsisDraw), search the electronic literature (Web of Science), create molecules and compute their geometry, energy, etc. (Spartan), and, create and deliver a talk (Powerpoint). Thus, the chemistry content is relatively slight; prior or ongoing exposure to Chemistry is an advantage but
not essential. Students in the past have always rated this course very highly for usefulness.
The course is continuously assessed and
demands attendance at the classes and the completion of weekly projects.
