The Social Innovation and Policy Cluster aims to bring research and knowledge from business, management, marketing, economics, public policy, and the social sciences together to address pressing social and policy problems. An important assumption of the cluster is that government, the public, and the private sector have key roles to play in creating a vibrant society and in implementing successful public policies. Thus, the cluster investigates diverse individual and collective efforts for significant and lasting social change through research that is inter, multi and trans-disciplinary in nature and in various public policy domains (e.g. health, the environment, science in society and transportation). The cluster recognizes that lasting positive change requires that we understand the tangled influences of public policy, social contexts, and individual preferences.
The cluster combines policy insight with private sector expertise and the need to engage all stakeholders to develop and maintain innovative public policy solutions, improved governance systems and the next generation of leaders. The policy focus, whether local, national, European or global needs to better include the perspectives and insights of people, university researchers, informed stakeholders, and recognized best practices. With this in mind, the cluster engages in research and applied efforts that improve governance and capacity building especially as it pertains to enabling the public to participate and to inform the decisions of government and other professionals whose decisions affect their daily lives and well-being.
