Dr. Brian Fynes is a member of the Smurfit School of Business at University College Dublin where he specialises in supply chain management. Prior to that he was on the Faculty of London Business School where he was EU Marie Curie Research Fellow at the Centre for Operations Management. He is also Director of the IBM On-Demand Supply Chain Laboratory at the School. This laboratory is part of a grid-enabled set of supply chain laboratories (along with Michigan State University, Penn State University and Arizona State University) which simulates supply chain dynamics in both teaching and research.
His research interests focus on supply chain practices and performance in manufacturing and service industries. He has acted as a consultant and adviser on supply chain issues to a wide range of companies and government agencies. He has published articles in the Production and Operations Management, the International Journal of Operations & Production Management, the International Journal of Production Economics, the International Journal of Physical Distribution & Materials Management, the International Journal of Service Industries Management, the European Management Journal, the International Labour Review, the International Review of Retail and Consumer Research, the Journal of Enterprise Information Management and Supply Chain Management: An International Journal. He is co-author of two management books: Flexible Working Lives (Oaktree Press), M and Competing from the Periphery (Dryden Press).
