Brian joined CISC as the recipient of a PhD Studentship in the High Performance Work Systems Group in 2004, having spent the previous year as a lecturer (fixed term) in Strategy and Human Resource Management at the Department of Management NUI, Galway. Brian holds a BA (Hons) from the University of Dublin, Trinity College and an MBS (Corporate Strategy and People Management) from NUI Galway. In 2004 Brian was awarded the Irish Management Institute (IMI) Sir Charles Harvey Medal as one of the most outstanding graduates of a postgraduate business degree in Ireland. Brian is currently completing his PhD, exploring the determinants of HRM in smaller firms at the Judge Business School, University of Cambridge where he is the recipient of a Cambridge European Trust bursary and a Fellow of the Cambridge European Society. Brian has presented his work at a number of national and international conferences receiving a number of best paper awards including: UCIRHRP Best Student Paper LERA (2009), most outstanding PhD Paper, Judge Business School, Doctoral Conference (2007), Best Postgraduate Paper Irish Academy of Management Conference (2007), Best Paper, Strategy as Practice Track, British Academy of Management Conference (2006), IRRA/AILR Best Paper (2005), and Joint Best Paper HRM Track, Irish Academy of Management Conference (2004). Brian has experience in HR and strategy consulting, while his commissioned work on university technology transfer was cited in the Irish governments’ Strategy for Science, Technology and Innovation and published in book format.
