Biography

David Collings is a Lecturer in International Management at the Department of Management, J.E. Cairnes School of Business & Economics and a Research Fellow at the Centre for Innovation & Structural Change, National University of Ireland, Galway. Prior to taking up his current appointment David was on the faculty at the University of Sheffield Management School, in the UK. He was also a Visiting Research Fellow at the Strathclyde International Business Unit, Strathclyde Business School. He was also previously an IRCHSS Government of Ireland Research Scholar at the Kemmy Business School, University of Limerick where he completed his PhD.

Research interests

David’s current research interests focus on human resource management in the MNC with a particular interest in staffing and industrial relations issues. He has just begun a project on talent management in MNCs. He is also currently contacting research on e-HR. He has published over 40 journal articles and book chapters around these themes. His work has appeared in outlets such as the Journal of World Business, International Journal of Human Resource Management and International Journal of Management Reviews.

He sits on a number of editorial boards and is the Editor (joint) of Human Resource Management Journal. Further, he has edited a number of books and journal special issues including Global Staffing, published by Routledge with Hugh Scullion and International HRM and International Assignments, published by Palgrave with Noreen Heraty and Mike Morley. Currently he is editing a text book Human Resource Management: A critical introduction, with Geoff Wood. This will be published by Routledge in 2009. Over the past three years he has guest edited special issues of the Journal of World Business,  International Journal of Human Resource Management,  the Human Resource Management Journal and Personnel Review.

Teaching interests

David teaches on a range of courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Topics include HRM, organisational behaviour, international management and international HRM.

David is also an external examiner at the University of Limerick and the University of the West Indies.

Membership of professional bodies

David is a Chartered member of the CIPD (Chartered MCIPD), a Member of the Irish Academy of Management, Irish Industrial Relations Association, the Academy of Management, the British Academy of Management and the Academy of International Business.
